Sales engineer and solutions architect recruitment

Pre-sales is where technical credibility is won or lost. We hire sales engineers, solutions architects and solutions consultants who can run a proof of value and still hold the commercial line.

The hardest hire on the revenue team

Sales engineers sit between engineering and the number. The pool of people who can architect a solution, defend it in a security review and still close a commercial conversation is small, and almost none of them are actively looking.

We map by product category and buyer, not by job title. A pre-sales lead who has run proofs of value against your direct competitor is worth ten generic SE profiles, and the search is built around finding those people first.

Roles we cover in pre-sales

Sales engineer, senior sales engineer and principal SE. Solutions architect and enterprise architect. Solutions consultant and value engineer. Pre-sales manager, director of sales engineering and VP of solutions.

We also cover post-sales technical roles that overlap heavily on skills: implementation architects, technical account managers and professional services leads.

Technical assessment without wasting engineer time

We screen for depth before your team sees anybody: a structured technical conversation on architecture, integration patterns and the specific stack in your deals, plus a demo walk-through against a real scenario.

That means your own engineers spend their time on two or three genuinely qualified people rather than filtering a longlist.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a sales engineer and a solutions architect?
A sales engineer owns technical validation inside an active sales cycle: demos, proofs of value and security review. A solutions architect designs the deployment and often stays involved post-sale. In smaller scale-ups one person does both, which raises the bar on hiring.
What does a sales engineer earn in 2026?
In the UK, £85k to £110k base with £105k to £140k OTE. In the US, $150k to $185k base with $190k to $240k OTE. Splits are typically 80/20 rather than the 50/50 an AE carries, and cyber and AI infrastructure pay a premium on both.
What does GTM Search cost?
Contingent searches are charged as a percentage of first-year base salary, payable only on placement. Retained and RPO engagements are staged or fixed-fee and work out lower per hire at volume. We quote before any work starts, with no fee for the market map.
How long does a search take?
You receive a shortlist within 14 days of kick-off. Median time from kick-off to signed offer across our 2025 to 2026 searches is under six weeks, with the interview process itself the usual bottleneck rather than pipeline.
Contingent, retained or RPO: which should we use?
Contingent suits one-off or opportunistic hires. Retained suits leadership and confidential searches where you need guaranteed focus. RPO suits teams hiring five or more revenue seats in a year and wanting a single embedded partner.
